Assessing Expectations and Meeting Needs
Goal: To hold an in-depth discussion about your expectations and your individual and unified needs as one possible way to strengthen the unity and harmony in your marriage. To understand and communicate the primary needs you each perceive you have, to assess the extent to which your needs are reasonable and being met, which are vital to be met whenever possible, and who is meeting them. To be clear how to mutually meet one another’s needs as a loving service in your marriage and how meeting primary needs contributes to the strength of your marriage. To create action plans to address unmet needs as appropriate.
Individuals may not recognize their own needs or when they are valid and worthy of respect. Couples can also easily make assumptions about their spouses’ needs, hold expectations about how their spouse should meet their needs, and struggle to meet one another’s primary needs. Where needs are consistently not met in a marriage, there is likely to be a breakdown in connection or communication between you. This discussion and action guide will assist you to have an improved understanding of your own needs and your partner’s needs and how to meet them together effectively.
