| The Marriage Transformation Project is a global social and economic development project committed to marriage education and marriage skill building for people at all stages of relationships. A key focus of the project is developing materials that assist people before marriage to know one another's characters and couples after marriage to encourage development of their character qualities. Materials to assist parents with developing children's characters are also available.
In addition to its own independent work in developing materials, Marriage Transformation draws on the work of marriage researchers and experts. It also derives part of its inspiration and content from the teachings of the world's religions, especially as they relate to character qualities. These include the following faiths: Baha'i*, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, and Muslim.

Project Purpose
Empowering people to create happy, lasting, character-based marriages - the foundation of a prosperous, unified world.
Mission Possible for Transforming Marriages
We are committed to creating practical resources and powerful learning opportunities focused on character to support successful marriage preparation, and to sustain and balance the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical aspects of married life.
Project Philosophy
Y Marriage and the family are the basic building blocks of a unified global society.
Y When individuals, couples, and communities engage in preparing effectively for marriage, they are equipped to create marriages that are happy, strong, lasting, and unified.
Y Individuals who have many well-developed character qualities are most likely to establish lasting marriages. The process of character development begins in childhood and continues throughout life.
Y Parents have a responsibility to get to know prospective family members very well, assist with ensuring their children are likely to establish lasting marriages, welcome new family members, and build unity with them.

Y New models of dating and courting that are more family inclusive, spiritually-based, and that include the gift of chastity will lead to stronger marriages and families.
Y Marriage is a union of both the bodies and the souls of the two people.
When this union produces a profound friendship of spirit between the couple, the union may last beyond the physical death of the couple.
Y Couples draw closer together and strengthen their marriages when they both turn to God for guidance and follow spiritual principles and laws in their lives.
Y People of all faith pathways and those who are not involved in any faith can strengthen their relationships by including spiritual practices in their lives. This includes such actions as prayer, encouraging each other to use spiritual character qualities, acting in loving ways, and striving for unity and harmony in the relationship.
Y Married couples are more likely to stay happily married if they continue educating themselves about marriage and enriching and nurturing their relationship. This education includes how to reach decisions harmoniously and communicate effectively with each other and other family members.
Y Intermarrying between people of different races and cultures builds a unified and diverse global society.
Project Funding and Structure
The income for the project comes primarily from book and product sales, with a small amount from workshops. At times, committed individuals have made contributions to the principals of the project to support the high costs of book creation and publishing and the necessary overhead expenses of running a home office and book distribution center. As of March 2004, however, the project is now set up as a corporation, so financial contributions cannot be made under U.S. Internal Revenue Service laws to Marriage Transformation, only to the principals of the comany as individuals, who can then use the money for company purposes. Loans, however, are possible (contact Susanne Alexander, President, susanne@marriagetransformation.com). Those providing financial assistance to the company do not become shareholders or principals of the company and cannot direct the company's actions. We are committed to use all funds in support of the company purpose and mission, and we appreciate people's commitment to participating financially.
Susanne Alexander, President, is working full time on this project without salary, with a part-time paid contractor who assists with the website, newsletter, book layout, shipping, and so on. Craig Farnsworth serves as Secretary-Treasurer, with the primary responsibility of managing the finances of the company and the distribution of books. We had a marketing/media intern in the summer of 2004 who was funded primarily by a grant from her college. There is a volunteer business advisory board that meets every few months.
For biographical information about the principals of the project, see our Media Center.
A portion of the profits from Pure Gold: Encouraging Character Qualities in Marriage goes to The Virtues Project International (www.virtuesproject.com and www.paceofgrace.net), as its work was foundational to the book.

Note: In July/August 2007, our project went on brief hiatus as we responded to Craig's diagnosis of a brain tumor. Our journey with this and some of the impact on our marriage is on this blog:
